Flagrant Foul

Dear Coach,

Just letting you know that when the kid on the other team chucks a bat at your pitcher in a softball game, hitting him in the face, it’s probably for the best to pull him from the game and evaluate him for injury. Best not to wait for another inning when he passes out. Word to the wise.

No way !~! What goes thru the minds of these coaches when this kind of thing happens…

Sadly it’s pretty common and if it’s not the coach it’s the kids parents insisting they continue the game/postpone treatment. :/ I’m the overly cautious “Let’s just go ahead and get this checked out” variety. Seems like common sense to me.

I am a phpysical therapist. Years ago I had a yong brain damaged (for life) patient. He got knocked out in a pee wee football game. The coach wasn’t concerned because he came to in about 30 seconds. The kid complained of a headache for the next week but the parents didn’t take him to a doctor because they didn’t have health insurance. They put him back into the game the next week and after the first scrimmage their son arrested. He had a leaking subdural hematoma from the previous week. Very sad case. Very stupid parent and coach. I treated hundreds of other injured kids that were neglected or abused by coaches that were only interested in wining, even at the pee wee level of sports. I have no respect for coaches.
