Yes I know that your two year old probably can chew her food but some items are just too risky.
Namely grapes. They are the perfect size to occlude the airway! Make sure you cut them up before you give them to your toddler.
Nothing is scarier to me than having a kid come in with a completely blocked airway!
I heard about a child who died just this way because an older sibling–with the best of intentions–fed him grapes left over from his lunch. Both children were in the back seat; the mom was driving on the freeway and couldn’t get off soon enough to do anything.
Horrible. Thank you for posting this warning.
I’ve also heard hot dogs, when sliced up are the perfect size for choking toddlers. As such, I understand they should be cut in half length wise before cutting them up and feeding them to babes.
Right! Slice things length wise! Carrots, hot dogs are definitely offenders.
haven’t heard about grapes but we lost a toddler at RCH who inhaled a chick pea
I’ve never forgotten an episode of “Recue 911″ from the early 90s where a 3 year old inhaled some peas growing in the family’s garden.
not scary. just page anesthesia ;)
