That is the number of people we saw during a 24 hour period over the past weekend. Our average is about 110-120 and our previous record was 156. Blew that one out of the water.

Being a holiday weekend we had our prerequisite number of “sick” calls (the weather was nice after all, so you better use up your sick days) leaving the rest of us to get crushed into oblivion.

Swine flu panic is hitting us hard.

Can’t wait for my next shift. …… NOT!

today ends my 7ths day ‘watch’ from my direct hit (cough in the face) from an unmasked H1N1 positive patient. The
“flu family” arrived in our department after their ER visit (2 siblings sick with fever and cough) but decided to take off their masks before they arrived in our department because they looked “stupid”.
Happy to report no HA, fever, cough or feeling like crap.
Big question is Why did they go to our ER if they were not going to follow the doc’s directions! They both tested positive and I got the dreaded email stating I was exposed.
Got to love working in a hospital.

  • Ouch!

I sympathize. I’m on call the next two weekends in a row, and dreading it.

yeah ……the day that that our state said we had 1 confirmed case we broke our record, which had stood since February-219 ….replaced with 228 and 2 days later with 227……we are now averaging 200 :-(

  • I ended up at the closest ER (as opposed to our preferred hospital) with my husband this weekend – not inner city, but in one of the worse parts of the city.

The girl in front of me? Her mother brought her in at 2330 because her toe hurt. She didn’t start limping until after she saw the triage nurse…but was able to horse around with her sister.

It took everything I had to keep my mouth shut. And that was before she was playing.

At least at the other ER, the wait is mostly because of homeless, mentally ill, or appreciative immigrants.
