How not to Treat a Cut

mcfly.jpg

OK, a little common sense advice here.  Don’t treat your deep finger laceration (caused by a knife that you were cutting meat with) by grabbing one of your unsmoked Lucky Strikes and snuffing the tobacco into the wound to staunch the bleeding.   It’s just dumb.

Yes, but then they can’t smoke that one, thus reducing their long term risks of cancer and vascular disease.

You ERR guys never see the big picture, sheesh.

I had an Indian guy pack his daughters lacerations with mustard powder to stop the bleeding. A few years after that I had another Indian person come in with Mustard powder on a laceration. They both said it was to stop the bleeding. I thought it was just a big mess to clean out of the wounds. I wonder if this is something they teach in India to stop bleeding put on mustard powder. I should have told them to use salt and chili powder next time.

Sure it wasn’t turmeric powder (it is also yellowish and used widely in Indian/Asian medicine)? Turmeric powder does cause blood to clot/has some antibacterial properties and has been used in actual medical studies as an adjunct treatment for leg ulcers. The active ingredient in turmeric, curcumin, is actually currently being studied as a possible anti cancer drug and also appears to have some nuerotrophic effects (and so is being investigated as an agent to use in treating Alzheimer disease).

LOL..amazing the stuff we see, yes? Although I haven’t had “packing” in a laceration yet…

    I enjoy catching your posts.

My husband drilled through his finger, and cauterized it by heating a metal rod on the gas burner. It healed very well.

Wonder if this is a southern home remedy. My parents were raised in the south. About 40 years ago my Dad put tobacco from a cigarette on my brother’s bee sting.

CardioNP, I got tobacco put on my bee sting about 40 years ago, too. Any chance you’re anywhere near NC?
