Saw pretty much the same hanger thing. It was one of those wooden coat hangers with the medal hanger. Impaled in the toddlers soft palate. All turned out well, slept in his own bed that night.

Children often put "THINGS" in their mouths, ears, noses, and any other holes they can think to stick things into. I have seen a child who kept sticking crayons up his nose (it would some time later get warm and melt); the mom was hysterical because there was a "purple something" coming out of his nose and rushed the kid to the ER. The second time was a "green something".
The picture of the fork sticking out of the child was priceless but the child will grow up.

Maybe he was trying to do terrible things to his dog with the fork?

(if you didn't get it, it's from one of Steve Martin's albums from the 1970s)

I remember that Metafilter thread, from four years ago. Yes, lots of people did lots of foolish things that they (mostly) survived. What a great read that was.

This kid is going to have a picture for the scrap book when he grows up.

Oh my...I am amazed this hasn't happened to my son yet (knock on wood). How many times can I say "sit in your chair", "turn around", etc. Good mental note- I'll keep reminding him!

Ouch!

One time, I was watching one of those ER shows on DHC and a little girl came in with a coat hanger stuck in her mouth. It was one of those big heavy plastic hangers, with a small hook on the end of the big hook, and the little girl was running through the house with this in her mouth and tripped, and got this stuck under her tongue.

They brought in bolt cutters, which made her scream even more, and her mom covered her eyes so they could approach her with these and cut the hanger off. She was then taken to the OR to remove it completely, and made a full recovery.

(Mouth gapes open.)

At first I didn't get why the after picture was first. And all I focused on was the kid's finger.

Um then I saw the before picture and I gasped audibly. What the f-? Back up to the after picture.

Ohhh. There are the three dots. On his nose. Crazy how that last tine didn't make into the nose.

OH MY GOD! (Grabs her own nose and pinches it to avoid the imaginary fork headed toward her own nose.)

AUUUGGGHHH!

Oh yeah. Thanks for sharing.
