Thanks to the reader who sent me this delicious tidbit. Here is video of a bizarre (but not that uncommon actually) case. A previously healthy young woman presented with progressive numbness and difficulty walking – diagnoses: brain tumour in the Medulla. Bad, bad news. Luckily (but disgustingly) she was operated on and found to have a nice big fat juicy worm in her brain! Probably was neurocystercosis – but there are other “brain worms”. Check out the video of the worm getting removed!

Notice how in the video at 4:15 or so when the neurosurgeon is describing how he has seen so many cases of brain worms lately, he says “I think it could be a fluke”?
No pun intended …
Didn’t catch that. I bet he had no idea he was being funny.
(grabs head and screams)
That’s all. No words.
Um. That didn’t work. I mean to say “*groan*”
it was my understanding that pork products in the US were being irradiated by the processor thus was the reason cases of trichinois were unheard of today> I can assure you as a waiter lots of folks will order pork chops at medium and occasionaly med rare.
I wonder if these alcohol-based hand-cleaning gels are effective against tape-worm segments. Maybe not and could this be a reason for the apparent increase in neurocystercosis?
