Anyway, this lady recently came in for a totally unrelated problem – but the first thing anyone with functional eyes noticed is this woman in her [...] Recently we had a case that caused some serious rise in our collective blood pressures. Most times I see someone with an “allergic reaction”, it is just hives and itching. Once and a while someone has some lip swelling or some mild wheezing. It was “CC’d” to me as it was addressed to a patient I had seen in the ER a few months ago. Basically it was from the insurance company denying payment for the visit – because it was not deemed “sudden and serious”. [...] On the heels of my rant yesterday about bad doctors yesterday comes my discovery of yet another “scam” that unscrupulous doctors perpetrate. The Case: A group of doctors have one person in their group who accepts a patient’s insurance (for this scam to work, the patient has to have an HMO) but the others are non-participating. [...] |
